BoWex® M couplings are curved tooth gear couplings which can provide flexible shaft connections while compensating for axial, radial and angular shaft misalignment. BoWex®’s curved-tooth design relieves any edge pressure in the spline associated with angular and radial displacements allowing the BoWex® to operate almost free from wear. BoWex® M couplings can be assembled vertically or horizontally with no need for any special assembly tools.
Furthermore, a material combination of steel hubs and polyamide sleeves allows for maintenance-free continuous operation with very low friction on the teeth.
While any metallic materials tend to “corrode“ in case of dry running, slide combinations with polyamide and steel are operative without any lubrication and maintenance. The standard polyamide material is characterised by the following positive features:
– High thermal stability (+ 100 °C)
– Good viscosity even in case of low temperatures
– Favourable slide-friction behaviour
– Very good electrical insulating property
– Good resistance to chemicals
BoWex® couplings are certified according to EC standard 94/9/EC (ATEX95) as units of category 2G/2D, therefore are suitable for use in hazardous zone areas 1, 2, 21 and 22.
With a presence in Bahrain KTR Couplings can offer a technical design support and maintenance support services. This means we can offer a level of service for replacement parts and design support that our competitors cannot. In fact, KTR has a truly international reach from which to support your business – 24 dedicated global subsidiary offices and a sales presence in over 60 countries worldwide. This is another reason why international businesses choose KTR Couplings.
At KTR Couplings we understand that component failure costs far more than the value of the component replacement. Some failures can lead to protracted system down-time that causes a significant loss to the business. So overall the cost of the component is a very small consideration and the use of more expensive components which provide higher performance, improved reliability and longer life can in fact save your business money.
Bow thrusters, rear rudders and transverse rudders require couplings, that dampen torsional vibrations, such as ROTEX®. This type of coupling functions without any maintenance, and ROTEX® compensates for axial, radial and angular displacements, increasing the service life of the entire drive system. Its damping effect can be controlled by the Shore hardness of the elastomer spider.
Our couplings offer:
KTR also offers arrange of marine OAC coolers featuring IP56 motors. These marine OACs are treated with a KTL corrosion resistant coating to combat the effects of working in a saltwater environment common to on-deck and other marine applications.
KTR offer range of flexible and torsionally stiff couplings well to handling misalignment and vibration involved in pump and compressor applications. Steel laminae couplings, RADEX® and RIGIFLEX®, work well in difficult ambient conditions and can also be supplied with highly stiff glass or carbon fibre spacers for bridging large shaft distances. KTR’s RIGIFLEX® couplings also correspond to API 610 and 671 regulations, and are ATEX certified. The new RIGIFLEX® HP (high power) design has been specifically developed to work at high speeds (up to 13,000 rpm) with applications such as turbo compressors and the compression or liquefaction of natural gas.
KTR can also offer large pin & bush coupling REVOLEX® for pump applications if requested.
KTR’s GEARex® and REVOLEX® couplings have your high power applications covered (1,050,000 and 488,000 Ton respectively) – including aluminium smelting plants, steel rolling mills, cement plants and various mining applications. KTR’s GEARex couplings feature small dimensions and yet a high power density and are in accordance with AGMA standards (American Gear Manufacturers Association).

ROTEX and BoWex deliver increased flexibility to handle greater misalignment and vibrations associated with more standard pump applications and systems. Split hub designs, in both ROTEX® and BoWex® ranges, offer an easier assembly which can mean reduced down times and maintenance costs.
